Garsdale: report it plans to buy, split Russian assets of Tele2 unreliable

MOSCOW--Garsdale Services Investment, the telecommunications holding of Russian billionaire Alisher Usmanov, Thursday described reports that it plans to buy and split the Russian business of Swedish telecoms company Tele2 as "unreliable information."

The company was responding to a report in Russian business daily Vedomosti that Garsdale had late last year discussed purchasing the Russian business of Tele2 and splitting it between Russia's big three mobile operators MegaFon, VimpelCom Ltd. and Mobile TeleSystems.

VimpelCom, MTS and Tele2 officials declined to comment to Dow Jones Newswires; Garsdale's general director told the paper the company has no plans to purchase Tele2's Russian assets.
