Rostelecom wants to increase the base of IPTV subscribers up to 600,000


New users of Rostelecom service will not pay for the connection or cost of set-top box, as well as for the rent of the equipment for first six months.

Rostelecom has started to connect new subscribers of IPTV free of charge, the company said. New users of Rostelecom service will not pay for the connection or set-top box, as well as for the rent of the equipment for first six months.

Rostelecom has considerable potential for increasing the number of subscribers of IPTV services. As a result of the second quarter of 2011, the company served 7,7 million broadband users, while only 5% of them (420,000 subscribers) were connected to the services IPTV.

Total number of Rostelecom IPTV users at the moment is about 500,000. It is expected that during 2012 Rostelecom will provide interactive TV services on the territory of Russia under a single brand name.

As the agency "Prime" was informed by the press service of the company, this promotion will last until the end of the year. It is planned that during this period subscriber base of this service will increase to 600,000 users.

Rostelecom is the largest operator in Russia by the number of active IPTV users. In second place - Vimpelcom (brand “Beeline”), which, in October 2011 served over 400,000 users of IPTV. Rostelecom is also the only Russian operator of IPTV which has direct licensing agreements with major global suppliers of film and video, including Universal Pictures, Warner Brothers and others.

Today, IPTV services of Rostelecom are available in all federal districts of Russia under the local brands: “Domolink TV” in the Central Federal District, “Avangard TV” in North-West Federal District, “J-TV” in the Volga Federal District, “U-Tel TV” in the Ural Federal District , “Twist TV” in the Siberian federal District, “TVi” in the Far East Federal District, as well as “Disel TV” in the South and the North Caucasus federal district.

In accordance with the approved strategy of OJSC Rostelecom board of directors, winning and retaining the leading position in the segment of IPTV is one of the priorities of company’s development.

Rostelecom is the national telecommunications company in Russia and country’s largest company in the industry.

In its current form, the company was established in April 2011 when the national telecommunications operator OJSC Rostelecom joined the interregional telecommunication companies such as OJSC "Center Telecom", OJSC "North-West Telecom", OAO "Southern Telecommunications Company", OAO "Volga Telecom" OJSC "Uralsvyazinform", OJSC "Sibirtelecom", OJSC "Far East Telecom" and OJSC "Dagsvyazinform."
